Our Goals

Dundee Fresh Grocery.png
Building community starts with you and me.

We have three main goals but it all centers around our vision that this will be much more than "just" a grocery store, but it all starts there.

To open a grocery store in the village of Dundee with healthy, nutritious fresh foods and whole food staples, preferably from local providers, at competitive pricing, accepting many methods of payment, providing access to experts who will help shoppers navigate government assistance programs.

To maintain a kitchen in the store to make bread, soup, and convenience foods/frozen meals for sale in the store. The kitchen will also be a  place for cooking classes for all ages. Available to rent during hours not in use.

To build a community hub in the store, with a beverage station, light snacks, and homemade soups with comfortable seating. A cozy space for shoppers to sit and chat for a while.

Our Progress

Community Update November 2023

  • We incorporated as a New York State not-for-profit corporation, Dundee Fresh Grocery, Inc., on September 7, 2022.

  • We formed our Board of Directors.

  • We held 4 community meetings in late August and early September 2022 in Dundee and participated in many other gatherings with community stakeholders.

  • We have spoken to many people and most agreed that we need a grocery store in Dundee!

  • We started working on our financial profile with the help of Bob Griffin of the Small Business Development Center in October, 2022.

  • We received a $5,500 grant from the Tripp Foundation in November. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Yates County partnered with us as our fiscal sponsor.

  • We developed our business plan November and December 2022.

  • We obtained the help of a Masters of Public Health candidate at Cornell to develop a social media strategy.

  • We obtained IRC 501(c)(3) charity status on December 30, 2022

  • We partnered with CCE Yates County and the Dundee Baptist Church to obtain a $24,953 grant from the Genesee Valley Regional Market Authority to provide free fresh produce to the Dundee Area Community.

  • We used the grant to provide 8 weekly distributions of 3 to 5 different types of fresh produce purchased at the Finger Lakes Produce Auction to approximately 300 members each week at the Dundee Village Barn.

  • We are investigating other ways that we can bring fresh produce to the Community.

We are still working on securing a physical site for our store in downtown Dundee. Any ideas? Let us know! Email us at dundeefresh@gmail.com
